Betty Neese - Our Beloved Mother

Atlanta, Ga. - We celebrate the life of Betty Jean Dowell Neese or “Betty Boop.” That’s a nickname Joe, Dad, and Randy gave her. She accepted it graciously. Like the cartoon character she was always bubbly and energetic. She even looked a lot like “Betty Boop”! She proudly displayed the “Betty Boop” figurines that we bought her even though they conflicted with her exquisite taste.

Our mom like many know loved to smile and enjoy life and new experiences. She loved her Interior Design work and would stay up late into the night picking out swatches, wallpaper, fabric, furniture, and knick-knacks to create a very personal and comfortable environment for her clients, friends, and family. She loved to shop and always seemed to have

the perfect taste in clothes. We could shop for hours and could not find a single pair of pants. She would shop for 30 minutes and find a complete wardrobe that would make anyone look like a king. Randy enjoyed going with her to buy for her clients and she often enlisted his opinion. This made him proud that she made a conscience effort to include him on her decisions. She was always there for him – to listen to all aspects of his life. She gave him comfort that his dreams, aspirations, desires, and problems were important to her. She always gave of herself and expected very little of anyone. Most of all she enjoyed her chocolate! You would see the most beautiful expression on her face when she bit into that delicious sweet. She enjoyed all food and tasted every exotic dish that was offered to her. She loved to experience new things. This reminds us of a trip we took to San Francisco where we explored Fisherman’s Wharf together. She bought Randy a ring with his birthstone in it. This was the most cherished and thoughtful gift he had ever been given. She could always make anyone feel special and well loved.

One of the greatest things she gave us is a large beautiful and thoughtful extended family. She had 14 brothers and sisters and an identical twin. Nancy – her identical twin – is our surrogate mother. They were so identical we often got confused as a child. We would cry because we did not know who to run to for comfort. Their special relationship gives us hope that someday we will have twins!

Randy says: “As I look over the events of the past few days the one thing that gives me extreme comfort and strength is that a few hours after her passing I felt a positive spirit come over me … I know it was mom reaching down from heaven and touching my heart! I suddenly remembered all the good times we spent together and most of all I remembered that mischievous grin she got when sneaking and eating chocolate behind dad’s back!”

We know the Lord has prepared a mansion with many rooms. We are sure he has left one undecorated for mom to make more beautiful!

We love you mom …. Max, Joe, and Randy
