Christmas Media Room - McDonough, Ga.
Project Type: Home Theaters Under $10,000

This client came to us through Stillwater Communities (one of our exclusive builders). In 2006 the client was building a new house in McDonough, Ga. We realized soon that this was going to be a media room with a special project on the side. The client’s name is Mark Hall. He is the founding member and lead singer for the Christian pop/contemporary group “Casting Crowns“. He also happens to be the former Youth Minister for our technician Tyler Evans.
Mr. Hall wanted a Media Room in his basement with surround sound and a plasma TV above the fireplace. He also wanted to build a mini Recording Studio in his basement along with a Recording Booth. Our owner, Joe Neese, has actually built a Recording Studio in his home. Mr. Hall came to the right company. We designed and installed his Media Room, Sound Booth with acoustic flooring and acoustic wall treatment, and wired the booth to his master mixing console.
Media Room Components: In 2006 ETI started with a Panasonic 50″ HD plasma that was mounted on the stone fireplace. We added (5) Boston Acoustics DSI-495 3-way in-ceiling LCR’s to replicate a surround sound environment. We added a James Loudspeaker Cinema 10″ 750-watt subwoofer for the low frequencies. We specified and installed a Marantz SR-8500 7.1 A/V receiver to power this system. The client has the option of upgrading or adding 2 more speakers to this system if he desires. We also added a Sony 400-disc DVD carousel managed by a Control4 Home Theater controller. This allowed him to categorize and organize his extensive DVD and CD collection. We also hooked up the client’s VCR, Monster HTS3500 power conditioner, HD cable box, and ClearPlay advanced parental control DVD player. In 2009 we replaced the shelving the original components were set on with an ICC audio/video rack. We also replaced the Sony 400-disc DVD carousel with a Sony 400-disc Blu-Ray carousel. We also replaced the client’s HD cable box with a TiVo HD DVR and upgraded his ClearPlay DVD player. We added a Control4 Ipod dock for an additional music source. To add even more ambience to the Media Room we put in control for 6 lighting zones. A 6-button keypad was also added at the bottom of the stairs for lighting scenes and turning on the Media Room system to display the client’s favorite TV channel.
Recording Studio: In 2006 we prewired the Sound Booth and Recording Studio at the same time we prewired his Media Room. We also ran 4 professional microphone lines and 2 stereo headphone jacks between the Sound Booth and Recording Studio (ETI made custom wall plates for this application). In addition we ran phone and network wires from the Recording Studio to home run location. We came back a few months later when drywall, trim work, and painting was done. We added a suspended acoustic floor decorative acoustic wall treatments in the Sound Booth and Recording Studio.
