5.1 Surround Sound - Grayson, Ga.
Project Type: Home Theaters Under $10,000

This client came into our showroom. He mentioned to us that his current Media System in his Living Room consisted of a very nice 63” Samsung plasma TV. He also purchased a “pre-packaged” surround sound system. This is one of those sound systems that is “OK” for what it is. However, a true surround system needs to be designed for the room. This client realized that his sound system needed to be upgraded to receive a more encompassing sound field.
We proceeded to visit his Living Room so we could get a better understanding of the acoustical environment we needed to work with. We soon realized we had some acoustic and aesthetic constraints. The acoustic issue was the wall the Samsung TV was hanging on did not allow a wide enough sound field for the left and right front speakers. The client also wanted the speakers to be inconspicuous as possible.
We decided to install (3) Monitor Audio LCR 8” 3-way in-ceiling speakers with a 10 foot minimum distance between left and right speakers. We also installed (2) Monitor Audio 6” 2-way in-ceiling rear surround speakers aligned with front left and right speakers. We used high quality 14/2 speaker wire by Genesis because of its shielding and accurate data transmission. We installed a Velodyne DEQ-10R 10″ forward firing 195-watt subwoofer in the client’s low-boy below the TV. We put that subwoofer in the center cavity which had a door with an acoustical cloth insert. This allowed the subwoofer frequencies to envelop the room and the subwoofer cannot be seen.
We added an Onkyo 5.1 channel TXSR507B A/V receiver to power these speakers in the low-boy below the TV. We hooked up customer provided HD cable box and Blu-Ray player with WirePath HDMI cables for optimum audio/video transmission. Installation of client’s VCR was also done. ETI automated client’s system with Universal Remote Control MRF260 RF base station and Universal Remote MX850 PC programmable IR/RF remote control. This allowed the client to use their new remote with the low-boy cabinet doors closed!
