“Universal” refers to two different aspects of this media room. First, A Universal Remote is used to control this room. Second, besides himself, the client wanted his family to get full use this room!

During the torrential rains the Atlanta area had during late 2009, Paul D. of Lilburn experienced flooding (several feet) in his basement (see picture below). While looking to refinish his basement, Paul decided to upgrade his basement media room to today’s technology. After searching the internet, Paul found Entertainment Technology. He saw our previous projects and realized we were the company to do his basement media room.

After talking with Paul, Entertainment Technology presented the following components to be placed in the custom audio/video cabinet his contractor was building. We started with an Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 7500 UB projector with a 75,000:1 contrast ratio. Whether you’re watching movies or sports, or playing video games, this 1080p projector ensures amazing image quality. Its UltraBlack™ technology ensures deep rich spatial and color qualities. We used a WirePath 15′ HDMI cable from projector to head end for video transmission. We also used a WirePath remote power extender to provide power to projector and allow projector to be protected by a surge protector.

An Onkyo TX-SR607 surround sound receiver was chosen for this project. It has HDMI 1.3a inputs for up to six components. Lower-resolution analog video signals can be upscaled to 1080i and fine-tuned by Faroudja DCDi Edge™. HDMI version 1.3a also transports the master-quality HD audio formats, DTS-HD Master Audio™ and Dolby® TrueHD. It is powering 3 Monitor Audio BR LCR speakers that have dual 5½-inch MMP(Metal Matrix Polymer) woofers and a 1-inch C-CAM (Ceramic Coated Aluminum Magnesium) gold dome tweeter, in a 2-way acoustic suspension configuration. This amp is also powering 2 surround sound in-wall Monitor Audio W165 speakers that feature 6.5″ MMP®II bass drivers and pivoting C-CAM® tweeters.

A Dragon Fly 100″ fixed projection screen was specified for the middle of the custom audio/video cabinet. Its frame is wrapped with heavy velvet covering which absorbs any projector overspray. Together with the inside beveled edge, the frame is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

We decided to automate a Universal Remote MX850 that has Radio Frequency (RF) operation and provides up to 100′ range though walls, floors and doors, indoors or outdoors. A Universal Remote MRF260 RF base station allows this to happen.

ETI installed and automated the client’s Sony PS3 Playstation, DirecTV satellite receiver, and the client’s Mitsubishi VCR Precision Turbo Drive. We also installed and automated an Onkyo UP-A1 iPod dock that expands the client’s possibilities for enjoying iPhone or iPod’s music, movies, TV shows, music videos, and video podcasts. It draws a steady power supply from the compatible Onkyo AV receiver via the same convenient cable that delivers video and audio signals to the receiver.

Finally we added an APC G5BLK surge conditioner that protects connected loads from surges, spikes, lightning, and other power disturbances. It also enables remote turn on/off of 2 delayed outlets. It helps power on components in the proper order to prevent speaker stress. It also eliminates electromagnetic and radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI) as a source of audio-video signal degradation.

This client contacted us through our website to complete a home audio and video system prewired in their home during construction. They had a desire for 8 rooms of whole house audio and a family room surround sound system. ETI provided this functionality through a Crestron Prodigy system. ETI specified all nine rooms to have Monitor Audio speakers. Both the kitchen and Master bedroom were fitted with a 4” in-wall touchscreen for control of a docked IPod provided by ETI, client’s CD player, DirecTV satellite system, and an ETI provided Blu-Ray DVD player. Secondary rooms were outfitted with simple in wall keypads for basic system functions. A 2-way RF remote for the Family Room allows the client to search their iPod playlists right on its 3” screen. Future upgrades for the system include lighting and HVAC controls. Below is a list of audio/video components that ETI provided for each room.

Family Room: Onkyo TX-SR607 7.1 surround sound amplifier, Velodyne DEQ-10R 10” subwoofer, Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray Player, Monitor Audio R180HD center channel, 2 Monitor Audio R90HD bookshelf speakers (4″ MMP®II mid/bass driver and 1″ C-CAM® gold dome tweeter), 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-wall 5.25” 2-way surround speakers.

Dining Room: Prodigy P-CBD-6 (in-wall keypad) & 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling)

Master Bedroom: Crestron Prodigy PTL4 wired with Crestron Crescat & 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling)

Master Bathroom: 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling). These speakers are controlled by Master Bedroom touch panel.

Living Room: 2 Monitor Audio BR1 2-way bookshelf speakers. These speakers are controlled by Kitchen touch panel.

Porch #1: 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling). These speakers are controlled by Kitchen touch panel.

Porch #2: 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling). These speakers are controlled by Kitchen touch panel.

Kitchen: Prodigy PTL4 (in-wall touch panel with hard buttons and a 3.6″ screen) & 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling).

Second Floor Hallway: Prodigy P-CBD-6 (in-wall keypad) & 2 Monitor Audio Radius in-ceiling 5.25” 2-way surround speakers (painted to match ceiling).

Headend Equipment: 2 Prodigy PAMP-4X100 (Eight zones of stereo audio at 50 watts per channel), Prodigy PMC2 (RF Universal Remote), Prodigy P-IDOCV (iPod dock), Cool Components PKCV1 to keep headend equipment cool, and a Prodigy P-MNETGW gateway for communications to all wireless devices.

ETI also installs OnQ intercom systems. There are several pictures below showing an installed OnQ intercom system. We prefer this affordable intercom system because of its neat, clean, simple, and low-profile look.

We also installed (2) Monitor Audio LCR 8-Inch 3-Way In-Wall Speakers next to this TV for stereo sound. We included a Velodyne 10″ Down Firing Port Subwoofer behind the left front chair to add depth and realistic tones to HD audio broadcasts. An Integra Dtr-50.1 2-Zone 7.1 Channel Surround Receiver is driving these speakers. We added a Universal Remote MX850 PC Programmable IR/RF remote control and MRF260 RF Base Station with Antenna for an all-in-one system control. We used a Wirepath recessed 110v electrical wall plate kit to run power and allow surge protection (APC 8-Outlet Surge Protector) for the TV. We also used a Cool Components Cabinet Vent Package to keep audio/video components running at a normal temperature.

In the Kitchen ETI installed (2) Monitor Audio 8-inch 2-way in-wall speakers above the kitchen cabinets. We programmed a Universal Remote MX850 PC Programmable IR/RF remote control to operate client’s existing TV in this room and the sound from the new in-wall speakers.

This project was designed in December 2009 and installed in January 2010 and is for a client named Steve D. of Monroe, GA. We prewired his house several years ago. Our proposal took full advantage of the future proof prewire ETI did for him. He wanted to finish his Home Theater basement “Man Cave” and add extra functionality to his Keeping Room audio/video system. The reason we call his basement a “Man Cave” is because he has dedicated rooms for a pool table, ping pong table, bar, home theater, and a workshop. We are jealous!

We have put the following components into his Home Theater: APC 12-Outlet Power Conditioner with Battery Backup, Control4 Home Controller HC-300, (3) Elan 2-Speaker Wall Plates, (4) Energy V2.0r Dipole Rear Speakers, (3) James Loudspeakers S-103 3-Way Towers, Velodyne Forward-Firing 195-Watt Subwoofer, Epson Powerlite Pro Cinema 7500UB Projector, Integra DBS-6.9 Blu-Ray Single Disc DVD, Integra DTR-50.1 2-Zone 7.1 Channel Surround Receiver, OmniMount Viking Series Rack 5 Shelf, and 2 Control4 Wireless Dimmers.

In an ETI Custom Front Wall Proscenium we have placed a Dragonfly 110″ Acoustiweave™ Film Screen With black Velvet Frame (16:9 Aspect Ratio). We also ordered 3 rows of (2) Berkline Recliners with Black Leather/Vinyl, cupholders, and Wall-A-Way action to “complete” this “Man Cave” Home Theater!

Keeping Room: Integra 2-Zone 7.1 Channel Surround Receiver, Panasonic 50″ 1080p Plasma, Wirepath HDMI cables, and an APC 8-Outlet Surge Protector.

Our latest project is for a client named David W. of Alpharetta, GA. He was a previous customer of ours. He was looking at our website and was impressed by the custom cabinetry we displayed in many of our projects. He wanted us to do a project for his Allatoona Lake House but he decided to sell that house instead.

He brought us into his Country Club of the South house to update the Elan whole house automation system and his home theater. We disassembled his component shelf behind the projection screen and added new components into 2 Middle Atlantic racks that fit flush with the far wall. The home owner and his guests can view all components from the bar/dance floor.

David originally had a 4:3 Rear Projection Screen with a Panasonic PT-AE1000U 1080p Home Theater Projector. Obviously we convinced him to switch out the 4:3 screen for a 16:9 screen. He agreed. We added a Vutec Prismatec 123″ 16:9 Rear Projection Screen. We recovered the center channel cover with black acoustic cloth and painted the area inside the arch and outside the screen a flat black. This helped blend the screen and center channel cover into one thus giving a uniform aesthetic appeal. This opulent home theater demanded a homogeneous presentation.

This home theater is being driven by a Yamaha pre-amp and JBL Synthesis amps. This home theater has a 5.2 JBL Synthesis surround sound speaker system. This surround sound speaker system is about 12 years old but it still rocks! We had no desire or reason to change these speakers! This speaker system has (2) 18″ subwoofers. A large theater room like this needs a surround sound system like the JBL Synthesis system. The home theater is being controlled by a Universal Remote MX-900.

Sources for this room include: DirecTV HD, Local HD (off-air antenna), Apple TV, Playstation 3 (Blu-Ray player), karaoke, Shure Wireless microphone, ELAN ViaDJ (CD management), and AM/FM radio.

Our latest project is for a client named David W. of Alpharetta, GA. He was a previous customer of ours. He was looking at our website and was impressed by the custom cabinetry we displayed in many of our projects. He wanted us to do a project for his Allatoona Lake House but he decided to sell that house instead.

He brought us into his Country Club of the South house to update the Elan whole house automation system, home theater, master bedroom, and new outdoor TV that is going to hang on a new addition fireplace. The picture below shows what can happen when multiple Audio/Video companies get involved in a whole house automation system they know nothing about. They plug something in and “run”. This system would be a nightmare to troubleshoot. We have disassembled these components and added new components into 2 Middle Atlantic racks that fit flush with the far wall. The home owner and his guests can view all components from the bar/dance floor. He now has an audio/video system that he can be proud of and display for all to see.

This client came to us through Stillwater Communities (one of our exclusive builders). In 2006 the client was building a new house in McDonough, Ga. We realized soon that this was going to be a media room with a special project on the side. The client’s name is Mark Hall. He is the founding member and lead singer for the Christian pop/contemporary group “Casting Crowns“. He also happens to be the former Youth Minister for our technician Tyler Evans.

Mr. Hall wanted a Media Room in his basement with surround sound and a plasma TV above the fireplace. He also wanted to build a mini Recording Studio in his basement along with a Recording Booth. Our owner, Joe Neese, has actually built a Recording Studio in his home. Mr. Hall came to the right company. We designed and installed his Media Room, Sound Booth with acoustic flooring and acoustic wall treatment, and wired the booth to his master mixing console.

Media Room Components: In 2006 ETI started with a Panasonic 50″ HD plasma that was mounted on the stone fireplace. We added (5) Boston Acoustics DSI-495 3-way in-ceiling LCR’s to replicate a surround sound environment. We added a James Loudspeaker Cinema 10″ 750-watt subwoofer for the low frequencies. We specified and installed a Marantz SR-8500 7.1 A/V receiver to power this system. The client has the option of upgrading or adding 2 more speakers to this system if he desires. We also added a Sony 400-disc DVD carousel managed by a Control4 Home Theater controller. This allowed him to categorize and organize his extensive DVD and CD collection. We also hooked up the client’s VCR, Monster HTS3500 power conditioner, HD cable box, and ClearPlay advanced parental control DVD player. In 2009 we replaced the shelving the original components were set on with an ICC audio/video rack. We also replaced the Sony 400-disc DVD carousel with a Sony 400-disc Blu-Ray carousel. We also replaced the client’s HD cable box with a TiVo HD DVR and upgraded his ClearPlay DVD player. We added a Control4 Ipod dock for an additional music source. To add even more ambience to the Media Room we put in control for 6 lighting zones. A 6-button keypad was also added at the bottom of the stairs for lighting scenes and turning on the Media Room system to display the client’s favorite TV channel.

Recording Studio: In 2006 we prewired the Sound Booth and Recording Studio at the same time we prewired his Media Room. We also ran 4 professional microphone lines and 2 stereo headphone jacks between the Sound Booth and Recording Studio (ETI made custom wall plates for this application). In addition we ran phone and network wires from the Recording Studio to home run location. We came back a few months later when drywall, trim work, and painting was done. We added a suspended acoustic floor decorative acoustic wall treatments in the Sound Booth and Recording Studio.
