This home theater, located in the client’s living room, presented several challenges to traditional design strategies. It was the client’s wish that the audio video system created as little impact on the aesthetics of the room as possible. This desire mandated that we work closely with the carpenter, stone mason, and interior designer to come up with a look that created a warm and inviting atmosphere. In the end it was decided to build the subwoofer into the rock below the screen and the front speakers into the columns. The speakers we placed in the columns are no ordinary in-wall speakers. They have their own aircraft grade aluminum back boxes to provide the sound of a large floor standing speaker from a flush mount in-wall position.
System automation
Because the client has a large DVD collection and several TV viewing locations in the home, a decision was made to centralize all of the media equipment. All of the client’s DVDs are stored in one central controller allowing them to begin a movie in the theater and finish it in the master bedroom.
