Game Day Theater - Lake Oconee, GA
Project Type: Featured Home Theaters

The owner of this home presented us with a room they planned on using for multiple purposes. They wanted all of the aspects of a traditional theater, seating etc but the comfort of a family room. The room was to be used for watching the evening news and for big game day events. The approach we took was to use two different display devices, a 50 inch flat screen TV mounted above the fire place and a drop down projection screen. The client has a universal remote which gives them the ability to choose between one display and the other.
All of the speakers were placed in the ceiling to minimize aesthetic impact on the room as well as provide proper positioning in relation to the seating positions no matter which display is being viewed. Since this room is very large two powered subwoofers were wired and installed to provide the impact desired by the client for movies.
In late summer of 2009 while the client was on vacation a water pipe on the 1st floor flooded the 1st floor and basement. This included the basement “Game Day Theater”. Luckily the client’s insurance took care of any damages to the house and audio/video system we installed. The client decided to upgrade his intercom system for the house and add a Media Room in the basement next to the theater.
ETI convinced the client to go with an OnQ intercom system that has a low visual impact but has all the functions of the bigger models. ETI also ran conduit to new areas to facilitate later installation of distributed audio. Added TV jack to basement bedroom. Relocated volume control for the outdoor patio. We also wired the basement salon, basement kitchen, basement billiards, and the main level kitchen for distributed audio. We added Boston Acoustics 5.25″ in-ceiling speakers in the salon with an Episode volume control and Boston Acoustics 6″ 2-way in-ceiling speakers in the salon with an Episode volume control. These zones are powered by a Niles 2-channel amplifier. Finally we ran speaker wire to gazebo location and prewired for 2 sconces. We moved all A/V equipment for the new Media Room and distributed audio into the basement stairs closet. We added a Omnimount A/V rack for these components.
New Media Room: We mounted a Panasonic 54″ HD plasma with a Strong fixed mount in an alcove above a credenza in the basement Media Room. This system has (5) Episode angled 6.5″ in-ceiling 2-way speakers that allow an excellent sound field without affecting the aesthetics of the room. We also added a Velodyne 4-driver in-wall subwoofer powered by a Velodyne 200-watt amplifier. We specified a Tripplite 8-outlet isobar surge protector for this system. This system has a new Sharp Blu-Ray player and HD satellite as its video sources.
Pictures below with the word “After” refer to the reinstalling of previous components and additional projects added after the water pipe rupture and subsequent flooding.
